Copperheads begin 13u Season as Champions

The 13u Carolina Copperheads started off their 13u season where they left off the 12u season after finishing 3rd in the State Tournament. The team went up to Morganton to compete in the WNC Fall Heater and came home CHAMPIONS!

In pool play the Copperheads Beat the Diamond Mine Blue 16-1and the Clemmons Cubs 7-0. They were seeded #2 going into Sunday 's Championship Bracket. Their first game was against the Rutherford Mud Dogs which the Copperheads beat in 5 innings,  8-0. They then went on to beat the WNC White Sox 9-1 to make it to the Championship Game against the Carolina Lightning. In the Championship Game the Copperheads went on to take an early 5-1 lead going into the 4th and some timely hits put the Lightning on top 7-5 in the last inning. A lead off double followed by a monster home run over the left field fence tied the game and sent it into extra innings. In the eight inning the Copperheads scored 3 runs to put the game away.

The Copperheads felt they left the game closer than it should have been as they left the bases loaded 3 inning in a row and could not produce the hit to open it up. Great pitching held the 5 teams to to only nine runs and our bats produced 50 Runs including 4 home runs with back to back in 1 game!. The Copperheads are looking forward to competing again in a couple of weeks.
